I bought this computer for my elderly parents, and it suits them well. The screen is big and very clear; the sound is very good; the mouse and keyboard are responsive; and much to my surprise, my parents like Windows 10. They're very happy with the machine, which makes me happy.

As for the computer itself, it should be more than adequate for everyday things like word processing, email, Web browsing, and the like, as well as for occasional photo editing, or even occasional video editing. If you want to do any CAD/CAM work, or more than occasional image or video editing, then you probably want something with a more powerful processor and much more RAM. With the AMD A8 an 8 GB of RAM, I'm pretty sure this machine would run something like Photoshop or maybe even Premiere Pro well enough for occasional use. But if you do those things on a regular basis, then I don't think you'll be happy with this machine for very long.

If you're just an average user, however, and you want a big-screen, touch-enabled AIO machine at a reasonable price, I certainly would recommend this one. It's way superior to some AIO machines I tested in the store that cost more than this one did. I think 90 percent of average users who would like a touch-screen all-in-one computer would be very happy with this machine.

But as I said, if you're a serious power user, then I suggest you aim higher in terms of CPU and RAM.

UPDATE (22 Dec 2016): discovered if you want to upgrade RAM to the full 16gb, you have to buy the specific RAM already installed or the machine won't recognize the additional RAM.

(earlier) Summary: disappointed in the limits on RAM and internal drive installation, and inability to upgrade processor. That said, I do think this computer could work for someone who isn't a serious gamer or doesn't do serious high-end graphics or video editing.

At first I was very pleased with this computer. Its processor (i5) and graphics card (Nvidia GeForce GT 730) are significant improvements over the six year old several times upgraded computer I had built. The disappointment set in as i became more familiar with the computer innards. I added a SSD only to find Dell doesn't provide a way to secure that inside the case. Unlike my older computer which had 3.5 inch drive bays and to which i could install a 2.5 inch SSD with an adapter, this Dell has a wider drive bay with a special adapter to fit the space. That adapter will hold one 3.5 inch drive, or 2 2.5 inch drives, but not one 3.5 inch and one 2.5 inch drive. (Fortunately, the internal SSD I installed doesn't have any moving parts, and I presume (or hope, anyway) that being installed without being tied down works.)

It also appears that, although the motherboard has two RAM slots, and the specifications manual says the computer can be configured for up to 128gb of RAM, that the computer has an inherent limit built in. I was told by a Dell tech assistant that the computer can only use 8gb of RAM. Another reviewer says it has a 16gb limit. For my purposes (video games,photo editing, graphic work), 8gb sort of works, and 16gb would work quite well from what I can tell if i can install that much RAM.

If, as another reviewer has noted, the processor can't be upgraded, that would be disappointing as well.

I've been using computers since I bought my Commodore 64 in 1982. Along the way, I'veupgraded subsequent PCs I have owned, and even built one from a kit, then upgraded that three times in the past six years. It seems to me that this Dell Inspiron desktop was not built with the idea that an owner would want to upgrade any of its capabilities. If i had known that, i would not have bought this computer. I would have preferred one I could buy with an i5 processor and 8gb of RAM that i could subsequently upgrade to a better i5 or an i7, and add more RAM.

I received the Dell on Nov 19 and immediately started loading Updates after startup.This is where the problems started.I have a 58 Mbps Internet connection and downloads are usually very, very fast.I took 2-3 hours to download the first file, which was a conglomeration of many fixes.The Installation went relatively fast.The next download was Service Pack 1 and that took 3-4 hours.

I checked my Network speed at speedtest.net several times and it indicated from 1 Mbps to 10 Mbps and wouldn't even start a few times.I had my old computer on the table next to it, so I moved the Ethernet cable from the Dell to the old computer and ran Speedtest several times, always indicating 58-59 Mbps.This pretty much told me that the Network card on the Dell was Bad.

I filed a return with Amazon and it was approved by the seller, who wasCandance Ross, thru Amazon - BUT, I was to pay the return shipping fee, which was $65.00.I thought that was not right, since I bought a new computer, but was sold a DEFECTIVE one.I have learned my lesson to not buy through one of the Amazon partners, because I am sure that Amazon would have paid for the shipping costs to return it.

This is my first Dell computer after 20 years of owning Compaq & Hewlett Packard PCs.
I'm pleased so far. It was easy to set up & run from the start. I had no problems getting it up & going.
It did take a little while to delete the fluff & set it up the way I prefer, but that would be true of any new PC .
I'm not a big fan of Windows 10 yet, it seems to want to take more control of my computing & requires more effort on my part to save folders where I want them. But that's an OS issue, not hardware issue.
If not for my mild disappointment with Windows 10, I would have given it 5 stars. Most others I've talked to like 10.
This Dell seems to be a good computer, we'll see how it holds up in the long run.

I don't know if this unit was refurbished or what but the way it was shipped, it's contents packaged and the simple instruction, etc., it makes you question if it was.
First, hooked it up, plugged it in, and the desktop couldn't detect the WIFI during setup. After several hours with Dell tech support, it was determined that several drivers were missing, including the WIFI driver and front USB drivers. Did an ethernet connection, a remote assist and still couldn't update the drivers, even in safe mode. After 3 hours, the screen went blank and started to illustrate all the different colors in the rainbow with intermittent static shots. What a joke. Dell wanted to send a tech out to fix, within the next 3 business days. BIOS reported that no WIFI card was installed after trying to update drivers so tech determined it's also a hardware issue. I asked why wasn't this tested before being shipped out and they responded that since it was Amazon's product for sale, they are suppose to test it.

I am shipping it back today. What a joke and waste of my time! Black Friday is around the corner, I'll find a better deal and comp. I only bought this machine because of all the rave reviews. Just proves again, how much that really matters.
